Soroptimist International of Anacortes (SIA) is a volunteer service organization that consists of women of all ages, cultures and ethnic groups. They are leaders across various professional disciplines who serve as role models for younger women. The common thread that connects them is a desire to make a difference through volunteer service to improve the lives of women and girls, first, in their local communities and then, the world.
The name Soroptimist is from the Greek words “soror” meaning sister, and “optima” meaning best–and that is what the organization strives to achieve: the best for women.
Soroptimist International of Anacortes works towards this goal everyday through its involvement in many aspects of the community including education, community service, the environment, human rights, community infrastructure, and many, many more. The links in this website will take you to pages that will provide detailed information about all the good things that the club does, not only for our local community, but as part of an international community of like-minded women.
SIA has been very successful in giving back to the community through its one fundraiser, a Thrift Shop located on 3rd Street. It is a gathering place that links the community and the club: donations come from the community, dedicated volunteers manage The Shop, and the proceeds are then plowed back into the community to support programs that are “best for women and girls”, but also benefitting the community as a whole.
